Hi, I'm making a backrooms game as well and was wondering if I could use your title image in it. Would that be OK, with you? I'll credit you for it of course.

Hi Starkiller2478,

Sorry it took a few days to get back to you, I wanted to ask the people who were my team members at the time of this project whether or not they are ok with it.

Generally, as long as you do credit us, we don't see any reason to deny your request.
Could you do us a favor and put a link to your project page in reply? I am curious to see what your take is on this genre and concept.

Kind regards,
The dev team

Showcase #7

this multyplayer

(+1)

No, this will not be a multiplayer game, The given timeframe and scope we are working for do not allow us to add a form of multiplayer functionality to the game.

Despite that we sincerely hope you have fun with the current version of our game.

We will upload a new version by tuesday so look forward to that. There will be some interesting changes compared to the current state of the game.

NOW ITS A GAME WITH A DEMON IN A HALL

(edit) oh wait this is the real game

Yes, the game is still a work in progress at the moment. You can check out our devlogs to see what we have been working on every week. For now the game is not yet a fully playable game, but we are working on making it fully playable as soon as possible. We'd love to know what you think of the art style and current mechanics for now though!

Showcase #4

Thanks for making another showcase! We have also started working on the sounds of the game, keeping your feedback in mind but they aren't implemented yet. We hope to showcase them soon. What are your thoughts on the game right now? We'd love to hear from you.

(+1)

They are much the same as last time, but I am more able to see and understand the direction you are going. Most of the actual gameplay is rather simple and hard to report on so far, but the main idea is displayed. I noticed a progressions bar, does that give you something, like new abilities or make you grow? Anyway, something that is very clear, and that I do really like so far is the art-style! Great work on that!

(+1)

We're very happy to hear you like the art choices that our artists have made, they're doing a great job.
To answer your question about the progress bar, It indeed will unlock certain abilities and gameplay elements the further it progresses.

We are still working on some of our gameplay mechanics. Over the course of the coming few weeks almost all of our planned mechanics should be added to the main build. So we hope you will enjoy those as they get added.

As always, we greatly appreciate both your interest in our project as well as the input and feedback you give us.

Hmmm... I believe there must be something wrong with the file, or you may have uploaded an older version? All I see is a non-textured cube chasing a white cube with a... gun? Like a tank?

(+1)

Hi BetaHunter, we uploaded the correct file. Since we have gone into production, this meant that all previously written code was thrown out and the programmers started from scratch. This is because the code made during the prototyping phase was just to show off the idea, meaning that the code itself was quick and sloppy. To make sure this won't give us problems in the future, the code written in the prototype can't just get copy pasted into the new, actual game project. Meanwhile on the art side we weren't at the stage yet where we could implement the characters into the game. Right now all the characters are getting rigged and animated and will get implemented in the game as soon as possible. This might seem like we took a step back but we hope this cleared some things up.

downloaded it and it lead to a weird mobile game of a gun game

(+1)

That is really weird, we haven't heard of something like that happening so far.
We will have uploaded a new version of the game by tomorrow, so feel free to try out that one! Hopefully that will work for you, otherwise let us know and we'll try to help you! :)

Thank you for making another showcase! We got greenlight for our prototype and are moving into production at the moment.

How was your experience playing our prototype? We'd love to hear how you think the game can be improved. :)

No problem! I am a massive fan of the backroom story and have played a few games of the kind in the past, so I will gladly follow the development process and bring whatever attention to it that I can! As of right now, my assumption is that you are the beast inside the game, which is cool and will surely be much fun, but it will greatly reduce the "horror" factor of the game. I think the third person camera also have this same effect, but works really well if the player remains the beast. One of the major things I loved about the backrooms was the unknown element, How you would hear the  distant and gut-dropping screech of some unknown beast, echoing through the infinite rooms! I have an example that worked really well:

(Go to 3:18 for specific example.)

This game is such a great example of how audio can absolutely terrify you, even without an actual monster! But a massive monster slowly closing in is always welcome haha. What I mostly liked about this game, was the scream. That scream was just soooo horrible. Imagine that closing in minute by minute. And then the fact that your sanity is slowly fading! This was somewhat what I hoped for. However, I see you guys are going for a different perspective of the game, which I very much like too! So far I do not have much to add to that in particular as I need to see a little more. I can only really tell you the qualities of the previous Backroom Games I have seen. What i do like about your take on it is the awesome art-style and props. I often feel the backrooms are a little empty, and the fact that you have made assets to the office spaces, and with that art-style, is a great addition. Regardless of what take you choose, I will follow along! Keep it up! :D

It's great to hear, that you are still interested in our game, even though it is different than what you expected!

We didn't really plan to produce a game, where horror is the main focus (that's why in our game you are playing as the monster), but we still want to create an eerie atmosphere.
We're not yet at the stage in production where we work on audio a lot, but when we do, we'll definitely keep your feedback in mind. The sounds / music will have a huge influence on the general atmosphere in the game after all.

Thank you again for this extensive feedback! :)

That showcase is really nice, thanks so much!

We are currently working on improving the prototype to get green light by our supervisors!

Uhhh, I will give this a look today or tomorrow! :)

That's great to hear! :D
We'll definitely let you know when we publish the game!
